My chain snapped - vortex - November 14, 2025

I just picked up a used Voltbike mid-driver and on my 3rd ride, I snapped the chain.  This was a used bike, so I am wondering if something might had happened before?   I am around 200lbs and I did push it somewhat harder.   Is this because I pushed it harder, because the motor adds power to the chain, or is it my weight?   I am guessing - all of the above.

Mid-drive bikes are much more prone to chain snaps because the chain takes the entire power of your legs + the motor.  It acts as a transmission.

VoltBike uses "KMC Rust Buster" chains on most of their bikes.  This is not the most friendly chain for ebikes.

They focused on rust protection rather than strength.
