PEV regulations for Ontario are coming - eleader - July 5, 2026
Looks like the wild west for these is coming to an end. Government is discussing options. Lots of competing interests.

I ride an e bike with pedals and I get scared when these food delivery guys just pass me so quickly in the separated bike lane on their electric mopeds.

As someone coming over from the motorcycle community I understand the frustration. When I started riding my motorcycle, I had to get my M1, then M2, then M. All those costs money as I took courses. You also have to pay for monthly insurance. None of these obstacles exist for these electric vehicles.

The term e-bike is misleading as it is a catch all for bicycles with batteries and electric motorcycles, electric mopeds and scooters which don't have pedals and can reach some serious speed.
They are targeting the ones with no pedals.

Also seniors, and people with mobility issues don't like them either for obvious reasons. We need to share the road and come up with some common sense rules.

Most of these "e bikes" are really food delivery guys. Looking at areas such as downtown Toronto it is at least 75%. I also have seen high concentration in other areas such as Yonge / Eglinton (uptown). I rarely see commuters.

Food delivery guys are making their living using these vehicles. I sense a fight coming up.

I hope they don't over do it like in New Jersey. Even if it is low speed that does 25km/h or whatever, if you have throttle - you need license and registration. Anything that has a throttle - needs insurance, license and registration. Having the throttle is somehow what tips the scale into the next bracket. Not the power, but having the throttle.
I hope they don't do an overkill like that.

30+ e-bike ride out in London Ontario
Here we have EUC, escooters, eskateboards but mostly emotorcycles.
Not sure what to think of this. They are going all over the place, side walks, roads, wheelies, etc, but I also see attempts to stay grouped together and organized. They even invited some pedal bikers at the beginning and are considered of their speed limitation.
