A clan tag is a small detail, but it gives your name a bit of identity when you queue with friends or play for a regular group. If you're browsing options around MW4 Bot Lobbies, it's worth setting one up before your next multiplayer session. Modern Call of Duty titles use the Call of Duty HQ layout, so the route is tied to your profile rather than a separate multiplayer screen. Start at the main hub, open the menu with Options or Menu on console, or select the menu icon on PC. You don't need to load into a match first, which catches plenty of players out.
Find your player profile
With the side panel open, move across the tabs until you reach Profile. It's often near the far-right side of the row. This area controls what other players can see when they inspect your account, including your operator, emblem, calling cards, and weapons shown in your public showcase. Look for Edit Showcase, then open it. The clan tag setting sits inside that section, not in the usual controller or graphics settings.
Open the main menu from the Call of Duty HQ screen.
Choose Profile from the top tab row.
Select Edit Showcase.

Pick a tag that fits
The entry box is simple: type the letters or numbers you want, then confirm the change. Keep it short. Clan tags have a five-character limit, so something like 34K, WOLF, or a short team abbreviation works better than a full name. There's also a language filter in place. If your choice isn't accepted, don't overthink it; swap to a cleaner version or use different characters. A tag that looks clear in a lobby is usually the best call anyway, especially when names are moving quickly on the scoreboard.
Save it and check where it appears
Once you confirm the text, the tag should show beside your display name in brackets. There's no payment involved and no waiting period, so you can change it whenever your squad decides on something new. You'll normally spot it in pre-match lobbies, scoreboards, multiplayer, Zombies, and battle royale screens.
