Should we have dedicated electric chargers for eMopeds and eMotorcycles? - letsgogreen - October 20, 2025 Hey everyone, With the growing number of electric mopeds and motorcycles on the roads, I’ve been wondering if we should we start setting up dedicated charging infrastructure for them, similar to what we have for electric cars? Right now, most eMopeds and eMotorcycles either rely on home charging (just plugging into a wall outlet) or, in some cities, battery swapping stations. But as adoption increases, will that be enough? Car chargers (like Level 2 and DC fast chargers) aren’t always compatible or convenient for smaller two-wheelers both in terms of plug types and parking space. So I’m curious what others think:
I’d love to hear thoughts from riders, EV owners, and urban planners. What would make the most sense as we move toward more electric mobility RE: Should we have dedicated electric chargers for eMopeds and eMotorcycles? - CityGuy - November 10, 2025 If we really want to go green, we should include all vehicles, not just cars. Electric mopeds and motorcycles are getting more popular, especially in cities, and they need charging too. A big problem is that most car chargers don’t work well with smaller bikes because the plugs and batteries are different. Fast-charging is harder for motorcycles because their batteries are smaller and vary more. Space is also an issue, since car chargers take up a lot of room and two-wheelers could get in the way. Battery swapping is an option, but it needs standard batteries, lots of spare ones, and costs more to set up. Smart charging and managing many small batteries on the grid is tricky too. Chargers and swap stations also need more maintenance with frequent use. Even with these problems, including two-wheelers is important to cut pollution in cities. Cities should find a mix of charging and swapping solutions that are easy, cheap, and convenient for everyone. All cities and governments are strapped for cash. Going green has recently lost some political momentum. They want energy for AI and not electric vehicles!! Private investment woud probably be ideal in the current economic situation. |
