PSA on riding safe & question about steering - Olive - October 22, 2025
Hey everyone,
I had a little (painful) reminder today about just how sensitive e-scooter steering can be. I was riding along, thinking I saw a car coming from the side, so I instinctively looked over to check. Somehow, without thinking, my handlebar followed my head and next thing I knew, I was sprawled on the pavement with a bruised knee.
It got me wondering: why do these scooters turn so easily? You usually don’t need to turn that sharply in day-to-day riding. Is it the design, the weight distribution, or just the way leaning works on these things?
I know some people say “just don’t look at where you don’t want to go,” but I swear it happened in a split second. Any thoughts or tips for avoiding this kind of sudden wipeout?

Some scooters have steering dampers. That could help in a situation like this. However, you mentioned that you looked to the side, so steering damper will not save you in every situation.
