Hey folks, just got back from my regular six-hour scoot to see my folks. My scooter? A total champ, purring like a kitten the whole way. Me on the other hand? I'm currently typing this standing up because my back has officially declared mutiny.
I think my trusty backpack, loaded with the usual "just-in-case" gear, is partly to blame. What starts as a manageable weight at the beginning of the trip slowly transforms into a sack of bricks, leaving my shoulders and lower back in a world of hurt. By the end, I'm not just stiff, I'm practically fossilized.
I did try to be smart about it this time. I forced myself to pull over at the halfway point, found a nice curb, and did a few minutes of stretching. It felt great to unkink everything, and for the first twenty minutes back on the road, I felt like a new man. But then the ache slowly crept back in, and I finished the ride just as sore as always.
It got me wondering how the rest of you handle the long hauls. Do you guys also do the post-ride zombie shuffle? Or have you cracked the code on staying comfortable? I'm curious if ditching the backpack for a permanent rack setup is the real game-changer I need.
Maybe I am to old for this? Maybe I need to switch leg position more often.
Having said all that, I still love my scooter.
Let me know your secrets if you have any.
