Nothing wrong with being worried. Thermal runaway is no joke, however most of the risk comes while charging, not just when the battery is sitting idle. So it’s important to never leave a battery unattended while charging and avoid charging overnight. If you are around and got a fire extinguisher near by then you are in a good spot. For long-term storage, keeping the battery around 60% charge and in a cool, dry, non-flammable location is recommended. Using a fireproof bag can provide some containment and peace of mind, especially during charging or if storing indoors, but it’s not foolproof; not all bags can handle a full-blown thermal runaway. The most important safety measures remain using a quality, UL-certified battery, following good charging habits, storing it properly, and regularly checking for signs of damage like swelling or bulging.
