In general, a bike with real suspension in the front and back will give you a softer, smoother ride than a rigid bike with fat 4" tires. Fat tires can feel cushy on small bumps if you run them with low pressure, but they can’t absorb bigger bumps or rough trails as well as actual suspension. So if you want the overall softest and smoothest ride on most terrain, dual suspension is usually better.
